Governor and State Senate Recognize Importance of Horses updated 3/10/16


Through the efforts of the Horsemen's Council of Illinois, The Illinois Senate has passed a resolution
declaring December 13, 2016 as "The Day of the Horse" in Illinois. Governor Rauner has also signed
a proclamation making December 13, 2016 "The Day of the Horse" in Illinois.

This resolution and proclamation recognize the importance of horses in the early settlement of our state
as well as the continuing impact horses have in both providing economic benefits through the racing industry
and other horse dependent businesses as well as all of the recreational benefits horses provide for the people of Illinois.
