What is the ITBOF?
The Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation (ITBOF) is a Not-For-Profit service corporation, representing Illinois breeders and owners and dedicated to the growth and development of the Illinois state-bred incentive program for Thoroughbreds.
The foundation was instrumental in the drafting and passage of the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975, which ultimately resulted in the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders Fund Program. Since that time, the ITBOF has been involved in legislation which legalized Inter-Track Wagering, Off-Track Betting and Simulcasting.
The ITBOF is working to insure that purse accounts and breeders funds will benefit, rather than suffer from any further proliferation of gaming in the state. With the assistance of the Governor’s office and our legislators, the state bred program in Illinois will continue to rank among the most lucrative in the nation, offering over $21 million annually in purses and awards to Illinois Registered Thoroughbreds.
Working with the racing secretaries, the ITBOF keeps abreast of Illinois horses on the tracks and monitors their individual racing needs. They also offer breeders the opportunity to purchase seasons to popular stallions standing in Illinois and other states at the online Stallion Seasons Auction.
By law, the ITBOF verifies and distributes Breeders Award earned at race tracks throughout the state, insuring that eligible breeders receive all monies due them in a timely manner. Breeders may contact the I.T.B.O.F. office and receive information on awards money earned at any track in the state.
